"I've been extremely fortunate to find Bill. I'm a guy who does a lot of lifting and who is on his feet a lot (I don't work a 9 to 5 cubicle job). Bill does more than just offer a 'relaxing massage'. Bill is loosing tight and sore muscles. He is alleviating pain. He is allowing me to work and function in a pain free way."
He is skilled, he is gentle, and he has changed my life. He is a gift that keeps on giving. I've gone to 'day spas' and tried other "professionals". They could relax - but they didn't heal. If you're suffering with pain - please do yourself a favor and call Bill. Give him the opportunity to work with you and show you what life is like without that pain, soreness, or stiffness that you are living with. He's truly phenomenal and I'm fortunate to have him in my life.

"A deep-tissue muscle massage by Bill is the only way I can get my damaged neck/upper back muscles to function without extreme pain. Due to a great deal of entire body damage caused by a car collision, I get to the point where I can barely function. I would seek Bill's expertise every week if I could."

"I am a spine surgeon and this can involve long hours of intense concentration leaning over patients during surgery. As a result, I have my own muscle pain issues in the neck and back. I have benefited from regular massage therapy for over 15 years, the last several with Bill Hunter. Bill's work is superb and he keeps me going so I can help others' with their pain. Thanks, Bill!"

"Bill is an amazing massage therapist who was a key component in my National Gymnastics Floor Exercise Championship. Bill's magical hands helped me stay physical strong and injury free during my final year of competition. I would not have made it through the year without a weekly massage."

"Bill Hunter's sport massages have helped me through 30 marathons, including two ultra-marathons and many shorter races. Through all of the marathons I have remained virtually injury free and I feel that I have Bill to thank for that. Amazingly, at my last marathon (Boston) my time was just one minute slower than my first (San Antonio). That was over a period of 17 years. Bill Hunter is the very best!"
Nancy Cole - Record Setting Marathon Runner
"Bill does an awesome job of relaxing my stressed out body. His muscle stretching is just what I need to help in my workouts. He's the best- with his bear paws, music playing and E.T.!"
Madison Martin - State Champion Gymnast, Level 10 Trampoline and Double Mini
"Not only is Bill my best friend but he is my hero, for he has helped me to win many national titles. Without Bills big ol paws, I would have never gotten through all of my injuries and gotten as far as I have. Bill I love you big guy!"
Love always, Heather Nichole Lee - National Champion Competitive Cheerleader
"I have suffered from chronic myofascial pain since the syndrome was induced by the trauma of an automobile accident in 1994. After two years of physical therapy, muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatories and various other pharmacological approaches, I still had several days per month that my pain was too intense for me to get out of bed. Along with the pain, I lost the capability to do any of the sports I had been involved in. Gone were bowling, golf, softball, and volleyball. I was becoming ineffective at work and at home.
Then an acquaintance recommended that I go see Bill Hunter and try massage therapy. Bill gave me my life back. The only close to pain free time I have is the moments of total relaxation as I lie on the table for the few minutes I have after each weekly massage. Unfortunately, I eventually have to get up and go home. Fortunately, I can get up and go home. While I still have all of the symptoms that go along with chronic myofascial pain, I have only rarely been reduced to the muscle relaxer induced haze and enforced bed rest I was experiencing before Bill. Now, almost 6 years later, I live a fairly normal life. The sports are still gone, however, I can work, I can walk, I can hold a conversation with my wife."

Golden Paws
When you first think of a massage, a fancy table, multiple rooms, and gorgeous women may come to mind. Regrettably so, this is not the truth of the real world. The next best thing does exist though, comfort. When asked to strip down naked for the first time, comfort becomes a major role in the entire enjoyment of the massage. The man known to provide this comfort is Bill "Bear" Hunter.
I was referred to Bill through a girlfriend of mine. Having never received a true, professional massage before, I was quite nervous. The nervousness quickly was put aside at first view of his small, cozy-looking facility. The fresh green paint job and open door did a better job of welcoming me than any hello could have done. All I had ever heard about Bill from my girlfriend was positive, and I was eager to meet the man with the golden paws. I wasn't exactly sure what golden paws meant, but it sure did sound good.
Upon walking through the door I caught my first glimpse of Bill, sitting behind the desk working on his computer. He immediately stood up, came over, and shook my hand. Golden paws now had a meaning. His handshake was amazing; it felt as if his hands were twice the strength of a normal hand. My girlfriend left me to my fate, and Bill invited me down to the massage room to show me around and make me feel at home. We walked down a few steps into the room, and upon first glance I began to feel relaxed. The massage bed lay in the middle of the room, with a chair, table, and shelf accompanying it. Music was playing and the security monitor allowed Bill to keep watch over the front area of his building while he was working.
Reminding Bill that I had never received a massage before, I wasn't quite sure exactly what to do now. He gave me the first glimpse of his personality and joked around with me, asking me in all seriousness if I had shaved before the massage. Baffled by his question, Bill broke out with laughter at the site of my serious face. He told me he would walk back to the main room, allow me to get comfortable on the table, and knock before coming back down. The combination of the way he lightened the mood and made me feel at home really made me feel comfortable about the whole experience. The first massage, and the subsequent massages afterwards, all went off without a hitch. I had not only met a great massage therapist, but had made a friend at the same time.
Getting to know Bill came over a certain amount of time. Wanting to know more details about the man who I knew bits and pieces about, I sat down with him in his office on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Born William Lewis Hunter on September 1, 1950, to his parents Forest Herman and Evelyn Lucille, the only comment Bill had was about how strange his father's name was. This comment started the interview off with a laugh, and showed a true example of his charming personality. Bill is married to his wife, Mary Jean, and has two kids: Tonya Jean and Heather Lee.
With biographical information aside, I was curious as to how he got into massage. He stated that it began "by rubbing grandpa's neck and shoulders to relieve my mom." He said that from that point on he began doing it for the rest of his family and friends and loved the rewards he got from it. His training came in 1987 from the Dallas Institute for Skin Care and Body Therapy, where he graduated from the 250-hour course on June 16, 1987. The day was very important to him, as he was able to rattle off the date with no hesitation or recall of any sort. He began by working at random locations until February of 1988 when he opened his own business. He has been in private practice ever since.
Moving on to his actual work, I asked him what his favorite part of the job was. "Taking pain away, making a difference in people's everyday lives. Whether it's pain due to stress or pain due to injury, you are just able to help people get back to a normal routine." Bill is happy when he makes you happy and it shows through his work. His goal is to provide his clients with an enjoyable experience, one that will hopefully benefit them tremendously.
Bill has received many awards through his generous work. Many world champions, including the likes of cycling champion Lance Armstrong, have had the privilege of working with Bill. Chris Carmichael, head coach of the US Elite Cycling Team at the time, had Lance on Bill's table exclusively. He has also had many NFL players, world-class gymnasts, and cyclists on his table. One of his most proud moments came when he was working with two women from Texas Women's University's gymnastic team and they decided that they wanted to quit. He helped them maintain focus and they went on to win an NCAA Division II National Championship. "I help people get on the podium," says Bill. He has worked two Olympic trials, was named Best of the Best Southwest Massage Therapist in 1996, and is a member of the Who's Who for Small Business People of America.
Despite all of his accomplishments, Bill remains humble. He gets more joy out of helping someone return to a normal, everyday life than he ever does with helping win a championship. That simple statement right there truly personifies Bill to the best degree. It is this personality that made me comfortable during the very first massage I ever took part in. It is this personality that I became a good friend with. And it is this personality that made me enjoy writing an essay for college English. Thank you Bill.
